TikTok Ads for COD in Africa: Setup, Creatives and Testing That Work
How cash-on-delivery sellers use TikTok ads in Kenya, Tanzania, Ghana and Zambia — account and pixel setup, the creatives that sell, a simple testing structure and how to judge results per delivered order.

1. Why TikTok matters for COD sellers
TikTok has become a second traffic engine next to Facebook for many COD sellers in Africa. The audience is young, watches on mobile, and reacts to products shown in real use. In Kenya alone, TikTok's ad tools reach more than 18 million people, and the platform keeps growing in Tanzania, Ghana and Zambia.
TikTok does not replace Meta. It works best as a second channel: a product already proven on Facebook often finds new buyers on TikTok at a different cost, and the reverse is also true.
2. Account and tracking setup
- Create a TikTok Ads Manager account and check that your target country is available as a location.
- Install the TikTok pixel on your landing page and send the Submit form or Place an order event when the COD form is sent.
- Use one landing page per product and country, with the price in local currency and "Pay on delivery" clearly visible.
- Connect the page to your fulfillment so each order reaches the call center within minutes — speed protects your confirmation rate.
3. Creatives that sell on TikTok
- Hook in the first two seconds. Show the problem or the result immediately — not a logo.
- Native, not polished. Videos filmed with a phone, by a real person, beat studio ads.
- Show the product working. Demonstration, before/after, unboxing.
- Local language and faces. Swahili for Tanzania, English or Swahili for Kenya, English for Ghana and Zambia.
- Say "pay on delivery". On screen and in voice. It removes the main objection.
- Price and offer at the end. "Buy 2, get a discount" works as well on TikTok as on Facebook.
Prepare at least 5 to 10 different videos per product. On TikTok, creatives get tired faster than on Facebook.
4. A simple testing structure
- One campaign per product, optimised for conversions (form submitted).
- One ad group with broad targeting: country, age range, no interests at first.
- Put 3 to 5 videos in the ad group and let the system choose.
- Give each test enough budget to collect real data before judging it — several days, not a few hours.
- Keep the winners, replace the losers with new videos, and only then increase the budget step by step.
The same discipline as on Meta applies: clear kill rules decided before you spend. Our Facebook ads framework gives rules you can reuse.
5. Judge results per delivered order
TikTok shows you a cost per lead. Your bank account only sees delivered orders. TikTok traffic is often more impulsive, so the confirmation rate can be lower than on Facebook. Always compare channels on the cost per delivered order:
Cost per delivered order = ad spend ÷ delivered orders
A cheap lead that is never confirmed is not cheap. See COD metrics explained for the full calculation.
6. TikTok or Facebook?
| Facebook / Instagram | TikTok | |
|---|---|---|
| Audience | Broad, all ages | Younger |
| Best creative | Video and images | Native vertical video only |
| Creative fatigue | Slower | Faster — new videos every week |
| Lead quality | Usually more stable | More impulsive — call fast |
| Best use | Main channel | Second channel to scale a winner |
